What baptism actually is.
Baptism is one of the first things Jesus asks of those who follow Him — and one of the most beautiful. It’s a public picture of an inward reality: you’ve died to your old life and risen to a new one in Christ.
Going under the water pictures being buried with Jesus. Coming up out of it pictures rising to new life with Him. It doesn’t save you — it shows you’ve been saved.

The heart of it
Four things to know about it.
It’s a picture, not a payment.01 · Ephesians 2:8–9Baptism doesn’t earn your salvation. It displays it. You’re saved by grace through faith — baptism shows the world what God has already done.
It’s an act of obedience.02 · Matthew 28:19–20Jesus commanded it, and He modeled it. Following Him includes this step. It’s how we say yes to Him publicly.
It’s a public declaration.03 · Romans 10:9–10Baptism announces to everyone watching: I belong to Jesus. It turns a private decision into a public confession.
It follows belief.04 · Acts 2:41In the Bible, people first believed, then were baptized. It’s a step for those who’ve already chosen to follow Jesus — not before.

Honest questions
A few things people ask.
Do I have to be baptized to be saved?
No. You’re saved by trusting Jesus, not by being baptized. The thief on the cross was never baptized, yet Jesus welcomed him into paradise. But baptism is the natural next step of obedience for everyone who believes.
I was baptized as a baby — do I need to again?
We encourage baptism as a personal step taken after you’ve chosen to follow Jesus yourself. If your infant baptism happened before your own faith, being baptized now is a meaningful way to own that decision publicly.
I’m nervous about it.
That’s completely normal. It’s a big, public moment. But you won’t be alone — we’ll walk you through every part of it, and the church will be cheering you on.
What does it look like here?
It’s simple and joyful. You’ll share a bit of your story, step into the water, and be baptized in front of the church family. It’s a celebration, not a performance.
